The survey camp 2015 has gone on 24th August to 5th September as it scheduled in Wallawaya, for Uma oya downstream multi purposes development project. This camp was conducted for the completion of Uma Oya downstream development project which is proposed to transfer the water from Uma Oya to Lunugmwehera reservoir. Through this project, it is expected to irrigate 25,000 acres of paddy lands both in Uva Wellassa and Ruhuna Yala and Maha seasons using 11.5 km length canal. The project also aims to solve the drinking water problems in Uva, Wellassa and Ruhuna and also to supply sufficient water for the Lunugamwehera Reservoir. Meanwhile the project is expected to construct a 100MW power house which can be connected to the national grid. Therefore, Uma Oya down Stream Project is considered as multipurpose and largest project to be implemented in Sri Lanka after the Mahaweli Development Project.
